Reflections on the Way We Were: Childress High School Class of 1963

As we reach certain points in our lives, we often find comfort in reaching out to people who can relate to experiences that we have had or are having and to those who share our memories of a particular time in our life. Forty-five years have passed since we shared the stage in the old Childress High School auditorium and became the recently graduated Class of 1963. Let's spend some time getting re-acquainted reflecting on the way we were and the way we are today......

I Remember it Well by Jennifer Johnston

We were in the 8th grade then (that would have been Spring 1959) and were asked to help out with the high school band banquet (so the HS band members ... or their mothers ... wouldn't have to serve). We were thrilled ... actually getting to attend a high school function. Those of us wearing sarongs (I can remember picking out the material with my grandmother, and her wrapping me in that sarong ... which almost came unwrapped at one point in the evening) greeted people at the door and placed leis around necks as the band members and adult sponsors entered. Those dressed in calypso pants and shirts performed a number to "Banana Boat Song" (Day-Oh!!).
