Over the last few days, both Jennifer and I have alluded to the possibility of having a 45th class reunion. When the idea was first thrown out the question was would a 45th or a 50th be best. Well, let's face it, despite the fact that I can't believe that we are so close to our 45th the 50th seems pretty far out, so the 45th it is. Thankfully, our friend Jennifer has taken the proverbial bobcat by the tale and is moving on the idea. Jim and I are really excited by the prospect and we have said a definite yes to attendance as have several others.
The next question to be considered is the date. The thinking on this is that everyone needs a good year to firm up plans and arrangements so October of 2008 seems a likely date, perhaps around a long weekend like Columbus Day when many people have a little vacation.
Next to be considered is where would we like to meet for this reunion. Traditionally the reunions have been held in Childress. Now, nothing against Childress, but most of us think this would be a great time for something different. We need a place with easy access for everyone, a place that offers a variety of activities, and a place that allows for a really enjoyable time for everyone. Jennifer and her husband, Yahn, live in Las Vegas as most of you know, and she has graciously and enthusiastically volunteered (with a little help from her friends) to be our host for the reunion should we agree to meet there. She already has wonderful ideas for our time together which would include Friday evening, Saturday, and Sunday morning. I will let her share with us what she is thinking. I personally am really, really excited about going to Las Vegas for the reunion because it will give Jim and me and hopefully many of you the opportunity to see the musical "Jersey Boys"(if you so choose) which is will be in Vegas then. The play has been on Broadway in NY for a few years and I believe won a Tony for best musical. I have been dying to see it. The music is so appropriate for our age group and should bring back lots of memories. If you aren't familiar with the play check it out on the Internet.
The final decision for the time and place will be made soon. It would be wonderful to have input from everyone if you have not already responded. Please email me or Jennifer or even better, make a comment for everyone to see on this post.
You will be hearing much more from both of us in the next few days so stay with us and please, please let us her from you.

To add to Nicki's information, "Jersey Boys" not only won the Tony award as Best Musical, two of its characters won as well for Best Leading and Supporting Actor in a musical, plus one for lighting design. For those who don't know, it is the Broadway version of the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, featuring their classics such as "Walk Like a Man", "Sherry", "Big Girls Don't Cry", "Can't Take My Eyes Off You", "Dawn", "December 1963 (Oh! What a Night!)" and others. Talk about the perfect celebration of the songs and the feel of "our" time back at CHS!
As for easy access, Las Vegas can be reached by plane from just about anywhere (the sooner we get a date and tickets can be booked, the cheaper they will be). If you prefer to drive and make a leisurely journey, there are numerous roadside attractions on the way, such as the Grand Canyon and Sedona, Arizona (depending to some extent on where you begin your journey).
Nicki and I were thinking that it would be nice to have dinner and visiting (and cocktails for those who are so inclined) on Friday. Saturday, we can make arrangements for those who wish to golf ... or for the girls who wish to "spa", either mani-pedi-facial, or massage (the hot stone Balinese massage is to die for!) ... or other reservations can be made for those who might rather sightsee (the Hoover Dam is quite spectacular, as is Red Rocks National Recreation Area, recently featured in "National Geographic").
Then Saturday night, those who want can see "Jersey Boys" as a group ... and those who don't want can go visit the one-armed bandits or the tables ... or there are other shows and nightlife ... or you can just do whatever sounds like a great evening to you!
We could finish with a brunch on Sunday morning (I'm thinking Bally's Sterling Brunch ... FABULOUS!) to wrap up the festitivies. Of course, anyone who wants to stay an extra day or two can arrange to do so.
There are four weekends available in October 2008. I'm not counting the weekend beginning October 31, Halloween (sorry, Hal) because the hotels will be booked solid, the rates will be at a premium and it will literally be a ZOO out there. So, if you have any preferences for a particular October weekend, please let us know as soon as possible before we settle for throwing a dart at a calendar.
I know some will say that they just can't contemplate anything that far away ... but believe me, the time will pass more quickly than you think, if you haven't already noticed that indeed it seems to be doing so, every day. Still, it has been my experience that it is easier to accomplish something like this (such as our March Paris trip) when it is done ahead, and booked, so that people can actually make other plans around it.
We have already had some positive responses, and urge you all to try and put this on your calendar of things to do in 2008. We would likewise appreciate your passing this along to anyone in the class with whom you are in contact.
VIVA LAS VEGAS 2008!!! Go (Come On!) Bobcats!
Wow Jennifer, that was quick! Just sign me up TODAY! I can't wait. Stay tuned for more information. We need your comments as soon as possible.
Las Vegas for a reunion? Count me in...this time I am thinking of driving out. I just gotta get a closer look at that Hoover Dam.
Hey, Shee-Ra: If you do drive up for the reunion, I would bet you might find one or two who want to come also, and would share the driving and gas expenses ... if you want company.
In preliminary conversation with one of the hotels (I'll be able to find out more next week), I was told that it would be possible for four to share a room with two beds (slumber party!!!), so anyone concerned about expenses, or just wanting to talk all night) might want to explore that option.
I'm feeling very positive about our ability to pull this reunion together. Unfortunately, not everyone in our class will come to Las Vegas ... but then not everyone in the class has come to the reunions which have been held in Childress, so ....
I am game for sharing the ride. OMG...What fun would that be!!
